ABRE currently facilitates practical student excursions for groups of up to 20 people in northern and eastern South Africa. These trips expose students to practical
field research and monitoring techniques, which are supplemented with talks or lectures from conservationists and researchers in the field.
The itinerary of each excursion is tailored according to the subject specifications of program coordinators or organisers and the group budget.
Depending on the requirements of each trip, options are presented for the locations and geographical extent of each individual excursion.
Excursions may be confined to one protected area or incorporate several protected areas which the group visits along a prescheduled route. A variety of field activities can be incorporated including several types of practical terrestrial small vertebrate and invertebrate surveys (pitfall and funnel trap surveys, small mammal surveys, light trap surveys etc), aquatic diversity surveys, crocodile counts, camera trapping, and vegetation surveys and mapping.
Practical conservation management work such as alien invasive species control or fence maintenance as well as game viewing and
visits to wildlife rehabilitation facilities can also be incorporated into the itinerary.
Please contact us at abre.info@aecprojects.org to enquire about options for tailored excursions.
